How Booking and Prices Work
Every tour on this site links out to a live booking page run by the platform that sells it, not by us. When a booking is completed through that page, the platform pays this site a small commission and the reader pays nothing extra. Nothing is sold here directly, so the price on the listing is the price you pay. Start times, dates and availability come from the operator and appear before checkout. Tour from-prices are quoted in dollars because that is what the listings quote; museum entry is quoted in euro because that is what the ticket desk charges, and neither figure is a conversion of the other.
What Do Trieste Museums and Castles Cost?
Less than most Italian cities. Miramare Castle is EUR 17 for an adult and the park around it is free all year, which is worth knowing before anyone buys a ticket they did not need. Castello di San Giusto is EUR 7 and covers the walls, the armoury and the lapidary. Museo Revoltella is EUR 8 and closes on Tuesdays. Grotta Gigante is EUR 15, guided-only, and has to be booked, with children aged 6 to 18 at EUR 8 and under-6s free. Risiera di San Sabba charges nothing, and neither does the cathedral of San Giusto. State museums take part in the free first Sunday of the month, but the scheme has changed more than once, so check the venue's own page for the date rather than planning around it.
Is the Opicina Tram Running?
Yes. Urban line 2 was suspended after the collision in August 2016 and was reactivated on 1 February 2025, and it has been carrying passengers since. Two details that most guides still get wrong: the city terminus is piazza Dalmazia, not Piazza Oberdan, and the ride is part of the ordinary urban network, so a standard city ticket covers it and contactless cards can be tapped on board. The line runs about five kilometres up to Opicina on the Carso. Maintenance closures happen, so check the operator's own page for the current status before building a morning around it.
What Does Getting Around Trieste Cost?
A Trieste Trasporti urban ticket is EUR 1.50 for 60 minutes or EUR 1.85 for 75, a day ticket is EUR 3.35, and on Sundays and public holidays a single runs for four hours instead of one. Ten rides cost EUR 13.50 and twenty cost EUR 16.65. Contactless bank cards and phone wallets can be tapped on board and the system charges the cheapest fare that applies, which removes most of the reason to queue for a ticket at all. The airport at Ronchi dei Legionari has its own railway station joined to the terminal by a covered walkway of roughly 400 metres, so the train is the straightforward way in.
Are There Free Walking Tours in Trieste?
Two, and both are listed on GuruWalk rather than sold here. They are run by independent local guides, not by this site and not by a tour company. Pay-what-you-want means the guide is paid by you at the end, at whatever you decide the walk was worth, so budget something for it. You still reserve a place so the guide knows to expect you. One is a general introduction to the centre; the other walks the old port and the industrial archaeology around it, which very little else on this site covers.
How Much Does the Bora Actually Affect a Visit?
Enough to plan around, not enough to cancel over. The regional agency's station on the molo has recorded a gust above 110 km/h in every month of the year, and the peak in its 1995 to 2024 series is 168.1 km/h from February 2012. On average the station logs 17.6 days a year with a gust over 90 km/h. What that means in practice is that the seafront becomes unpleasant rather than the city becoming closed, and the museums, the coffee houses and the cave on the Carso carry a bora day perfectly well. No official wind threshold for closing the Rive or stopping the ferries is published anywhere, so this site does not quote one.
